I had always been interested in the idea of stripping, initially as a 'naughty' fantasy, inspired by the desire, but also the fear, of being looked at as a sexual object.
In my early twenties, I became an ardent feminist, for a variety of reason - some deeply personal and emotional, some intellectual. At this time I viewed sexual expression as something fraught with dangers and ideological pitfalls - better to be avoided.
But over the years I began to reconsider this position; as I began to explore performance and meet other artists I was introduced to other view points, I also began to explore Eastern Philosophies which view sex and female sexuality in much more positive terms.
