WINNER Mary-Anne Kenworthy

Mary-Anne Kenworthy was born in New Zealand in 1956. At the age of 26 she decided to enter the sex industry as a working girl from 1982 - 1984. During her time as a working girl she managed to save enough money to migrate to Western Australia where she purchased a small brothel, which would change her life forever. This modest mother of four children had both the vision and the determination to change the sex industry in this country. Her achievements are many and varied; Langtrees of Perth is considered the largest Bordello in Western Australia housing 17 rooms and operates up to 30 girls at its peak. The new Langtrees 181 Bordello in Kalgoorlie is considered to be the only purposely built brothel in the world, which was designed by Mary-Anne herself, with full Council approval and support during construction. 181 in Kalgoorlie is now a landmark tourist attraction, which attracts 30,000 visitors per year. Mary-Anne has become a passionate spokesperson for the sex industry not only in Western Australia but Nationally as well. Her continuing efforts to improve the industry standards and regulations have been well publicized. Mary-Anne's achievements have been great, however her greatest achievement will be the day when prostitution is legalized not only in Australia but the world. She believes that the implementation of sensible laws and regulations will benefit not only the girls of the industry but the community at large.
