Sleaze Film Event

SLEAZE formed part of FIERCE!, an annual festival of contemporary arts, produced by Fierce Earth. Fierce Earth is a new work production company whose mission is to 'research, produce and present the contemporary arts in Britain and abroad'. Fierce Earth is committed to supporting the work of British artists with special emphasis on the work of queer artists exploring issues of identity, sex and sexuality.

2000 Produced FIERCE!, a festival of new British work which included Franko B's 'I Miss You', Marissa Carnesky's 'Jewess Tattooess', Joshua Sofaer's 'Cockeyed', a sexual encounter between two men from a view point of a penis and SLEAZE

Presented as part of FIERCE! 2000 at the Nightingale Club on the 15th June 2000, SLEAZE was an evening dedicated to film and video that delved into the untouchable, the unthinkable and the downright dirty side of human sexuality.

Jose Arroyo (Senior Lecturer in film at Warwick University) opened the night by placing sleaze within a wider context of film-making in a talk that explored the work of Fassbinder, Pasolini and Felini illustrated by films from an original 1920's porn film through to contemporary classics.

This was followed by screenings of short films and videos exploring the issue of sleaze, sent to FIERCE! through an open submission process by young and emerging film-makers from across Britain. A series of short films and experimental videos were then shown. Finally, Annie Sprinkle's legendary documentary 'Herstory of Porn' and 'Affliction', a series of short, often bizarre and hardcore films made by underground American filmmakers, were screened.
