Far from the madding crowd, away from the stress of everyday living there is a place where you can be whoever you want to be. Leave the rest of the world behind, and allow yourself and your partner the freedom to explore your desires at The Edge. A fully equipped Roissy Workshops Dungeon and Playroom awaits those who travel to this isolated Devon coastal hamlet, along with a warm and comfortable cottage all set in its own extensive grounds 800yds from an almost deserted beach.
The idea was born when three years ago we had a tremendous party when Roissy Workshops set up their travelling dungeon in a marquee at what is now The Edge. Could we recreate that atmosphere of sharing and exploring on a permanent basis? Could we provide a safe haven where people could escape and explore?
A year later Stage 1 of The Edge was completed and the dungeon was built. The next thing we found amongst our guests was a great desire for somewhere to learn techniques and information about safe use of dungeons play etiquette, developing play techniques and BDSM relationships.
In response to numerous requests we developed a course where these issues were addressed, along with others such as the need for safety on all levels, including emotional as well as physical safety. The first weekend course for 'newbies' was held in the spring of 2000 and proved to be a great success. So much so that these courses now run almost monthly at The Edge and are attended by people from all over the country.
The demand for ongoing support and education has lead to 'courses for couples' with more specialised content. There has also been significant demand for specific skill based workshops, which has lead to these being offered on an occasional basis. Upcoming events at The Edge include an electroplay course.
The Edge dungeon and playroom, is a dedicated self-contained play space. It is on the ground floor of a converted farmhouse. It is wheelchair accessible via ramps, as are the separate kitchenette, shower and toilet facilities. It has a wide range of bespoke dungeon equipment built by Roissy Workshops.
The facilities include what is thought to be the largest fixed wheel in Europe, a swing out web, cage, cell, Y-Bench, saw horse, subbie chair, ladder, sling, suspension arch and bondage bed. There is a music centre and variable lighting for mood enhancement, also excellent for those holiday snaps. Nothing is forgotten at The Edge.
Strawberry Water Cottage provides additional accommodation for up to 9 people (if you don't mind being 'cosy'). So if you fancy having a weekend at The Edge with friends, the cottage provides the necessary additional space. It is fully equipped with cooker, fridge freezer, microwave, dishwasher and washing machine. There are three bedrooms, a double, a large double with a put up single bed, and a small room with bunk beds. One of the sofas in the living room can also pull out to act as a double bed. For large parties extra accommodation is sometimes available in the main house.
Strawberry Water and The Edge are situated in a coastal hamlet on the Devon/Cornwall boarder between Bideford and Bude. They nestle in their own grounds of nearly 5 acres in a coastal valley approx 800yds walk from the beach. A short drive away are many popular tourist attractions, restaurants and shops.
